In support of Air Force Special Warfare leadership training, Chambers Bay Institute is providing Special Warfare Airmen copies of their latest book, “Seeing What Isn’t There – A-Leader’s Guide to Creating Change in a Complex World” (LaRue & Solomon, 2019, Deeds Publishing, Atlanta).

Upon completion of either enlisted basic training or initial officer training, highly qualified candidates are selected for training with the Air Force’s elite Special Warfare program to earn a position as a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) member, which is the DoD’s primary source of Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) qualified individuals, who are among the most lethal force multipliers on any battlefield.

According to Air Force Captain Marc Buker, Assistant Director of Operations, 353 Special Warfare Training Squadron, TACP’s are the vital air to ground specialists that are the DOD’s experts in precision strike operations, often embedded with Army, Marine Corps, and Special Forces units on the front line. They are responsible for directing joint fires from forward ground locations. These highly trained experts go through intense physical, mental, and technical training in order to withstand the demanding conditions of battle and provide their associated teams with the firepower they need for continued success on the battlefield.

Air Combat Command’s Captain Tyler Quinn, Branch Chief TACP/ASOC, explained that leadership for these Airmen, who are a part of vital small operations teams, is critical to their success – each member of the team must understand and be able to lead during highly complex and intense situations. Implanted into non-Air Force units, they must learn to adapt quickly into other cultures, maintain strategic and tactical operational awareness, and continually reach out cross-functionally to multiple joint organizations. In this unique position, they advise combat leaders who are several ranks senior to themselves, while synchronizing and directing strikes from Air Force pilots and Army and Marine artillery units, as the on-the-ground subject matter expert.

“Seeing What Isn’t There” will complement this training program assisting these young leaders to broaden their personal and organizational leadership skills. Putting the methodologies and principles discussed by Bruce and Jim into action, they will build cohesive teams who will take their intent as the leader, and successfully complete their missions. These leaders will learn to see in new ways to better face the very, complex world we live and work in today.

Contributing to these leader’s development is an honor and aligns with Chambers Bay Institute’s commitment to develop a new generation of capable leaders.

Chambers Bay Institute develops leaders capable of inspiring others with fresh visions of the future, integrating and aligning their efforts to accomplish their mission. We help leaders to see possibilities where others see obstacles, channeling the collective energy of their organization to make this shared vision a reality.  “Great leaders lead change; they don’t simply react to change – they create it.”
