Description

Great leaders have the ability to see what isn’t there and inspire others with their vision to create the greatest achievements of our time. These leaders don’t react to change, they create it. This book helps leaders see a future yet to be born while showing you how to channel the collective energy of others to make it a reality. The authors provide vivid examples of how to lead change from their vast global reservoir of experience advising leaders within some of the most complex organizations in the world today. Whether you are launching a strategic initiative, improving procedures, creating an internal development path for your workers, reinforcing your cyber defenses, building a new urban center, rebooting your country, or you simply want to become a more effective leader, leadership is about leading change — and this book shows you how to do it.

“Seeing What Isn’t There” complemented what I am learning in my master’s program!. I am pursuing a MS in One Planet Leadership, a sustainability-based management and leadership program from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. Bruce and Jim brought to life so well their methodology and principles through their many real-world examples and vignettes throughout the book.

This is a great read for leaders, and for leaders in training.

This month I read a few books that I think are worthy of your time – “Seeing What Isn’t There: A Leader’s Guide to Change in a Complex World”, by Bruce LaRue and Jim Solomon is one that is recommended. In this quick read, the authors examine how leaders can create a vision for their organization and then inspire those around them to make that vision a reality.

Here is a great book to add to your reading list and toolkit. Jim Solomon has been a coach and mentor to me for the past four plus years. Use this book to gain vision during uncertain times.

“Seeing What Isn’t There” – I sincerely appreciate the outstanding manner that LaRue and Solomon discuss true collaborative leadership – looking at issues form the “canopy” and on the ground. Involving the appointed leaders, but also ensuring that everyone is engaged in the process is crucial, as they have clearly articulated. I spent six years on active duty as a U.S. Army officer and the last 37 years in the financial services industry and find this book to be spot-on about what any type organization needs to do to meet its full potential.

Terrific, insightful and enjoyable read on Leadership. This is the proverbial “hit the nail on the head” in defining processes, skills and traits of great Leaders. “Seeing What Isn’t There” is a very easy and understandable read. Great breakdown on how to evolve teams to have successful outcomes. Seeing the world in your customer’s eyes hit home. My professional career outside of the Army was mostly developing sales teams and managing operations. I would always ask my team members “if you were the customer” are we exceeding expectations. Jim and Bruce clearly define the methods and processes to ensure success. I highly recommend this book to all; I sit on a couple of Board of Directors and will be buying copies to share with my Board Members and company leaders.
